C3 Music – the music team from C3 Oxford Falls in Sydney – has released its latest album titled Abide.
And like several church projects this year, Abide has gone straight to the top of the iTunes Inspirational charts, and debuted at #5 on the iTunes Australian charts.
Several tunes from the album are already best sellers on the iTunes Inspirational song chart with Speak, King Of Glory, Your Name, and Blazing Light in the Top 50.
Jordi White from C3 says he believes that the church’s music today is gaining a wider audience from people outside the C3 movement as well as those without a formal church background.
Jordi says the full extent of the impact will be seen at the weekend when ARIA releases its chart combining digital and physical sales.
Baseball fans in New York City got a surprise at the weekend when they heard the music of Third Day playing at Yankee Stadium. Chase Headley – the third baseman for the Yankees – walked out on the ground to Third Day’s song Surrender. (Jokingly) Obviously a message to his opponents! Chase previously walked out to Here I Go Again from Whitesnake which was perhaps a more cynical entrance! Good to see him ‘stepping up the plate’ with something positive!
Moriah Peters is doing what she can to help fight human trafficking. The American singer, who’s married to Joel Smallbone from for King & Country, recently posted a picture on Twitter modelling a necklace from a US jewellery company. Profits from sales of the company’s jewellery go fund the campaign. Moriah says it’s just another way “to fight injustice”.
Jimmy Needham has written an article about the importance of memorising God’s Word. The American singer who’s performed at Easterfest is best known for the tunes Dearly Loved, Yours To Take and Fence Riders. The article – published at DesiringGod.org – has five suggestions from Jimmy about hiding God’s word in your heart.
UNITED’s Taya Smith was sick last week on the band’s American tour… but that didn’t stop it going ahead. Subbing for Taya was Kari (Kerry) Jobe. Kari posted that it was great honor to fill in for Taya and sing her favorite worship song – Oceans. Kari obviously returned the favor after Taya sang Oceans at Jobe’s wedding in 2014.
And finally, Challenge newspaper this month features a story on Mel Crothers, the Australian singer/songwriter who’s best known for the songs Bigger and In Your Presence. According to Challenge, Mel’s ‘career’ started the day she found out that she’d been accepted to study music theatre at the West Australian Academy Of Performing Arts. (That’s the same academy that has produced stars like Hugh Jackman, Heath ledger and Lisa McCune.) While Mel never pursued later opportunities in music theatre, Crothers today performs in churches and encourages others in their musical endeavours.
Mel’s story is available from the link on our Facebook page.
