I personally can’t even imagine the pressure that comes with his kind of celebrity status. Everything you do or say under constant scrutiny. Millions of people praising you, the other million criticising you and calling you every name under the sun. My skin sure ain’t thick enough for that and I’m not sure my behaviour wouldn’t be that perfect either. I’d hate for people to pull back the veneer and peep into my private life with such ferocity. Everyone deserves a second chance (Maybe even a third, a fourth, a fifth? I think God has given me at least six thousand and three).Regardless of what you may personally think of JB, I think we can learn some good things from him. He has certainly reminded me of a few biblical truths lately, Like this…..
1. YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE YOUR LIFE TOGETHER, TO IMPACT SOMEONE ELSE’S.
JUSTIN BIEBER ISN’T PERFECT, BUT NEITHER AM I, AND MAY I BE SO BOLD AND SAY NEITHER ARE YOU? REGARDLESS OF YOUR FLAWS AND FAILINGS, GOD CAN USE YOU. HE DID IT THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO WHEN HE USED ORDINARY MEN AND WOMEN TO CHANGE THEIR WORLD AND HE STILL DOES IT TODAY. JUST LOOK….
Paul was a Christian killer.
David was an adulterer.
Moses was a murderer.
Rahab was a prostitute.
Jacob was a liar.
John Mark was a quitter.
Esther was an outsider.
Peter was a coward.
Martha was a worrier.
Naomi was a widow.
Noah was a drunk.
Thomas was a doubter.
Jonah was disobedient.
Jeremiah was depressed.
Gideon was afraid.
Timothy was just a teenager.God has always been into unlikely candidates. Fellow Christian, may we never dismiss Gods ability to use someone because they have made too many mistakes.
2. IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO TURN YOUR LIFE AROUND.
“Our worst days are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God’s grace. And your best days are never so good that you are beyond the need of God’s grace”. – Jerry BridgesIf you think it’s too late for you, it’s not. It is NEVER too late with Jesus. You have never gone too far, or done too much. Even on your last breath you can invite Him in (I would however encourage you not to not wait that long though, you miss out on a great deal by doing life without Him).
3. PEOPLE WANT REAL.
In a world defined by fake, two-faced and insincere, people are hungry for honesty, vulnerability and transparency. I think that’s why so many people are loving Justin’s new album, Purpose. It’s lost its commercial, manufactured, all about love, sex and break up and entered a whole new world of authenticity. I love it. People need it. People want it. A lot of the time we try and hide our weaknesses and pretend we have it all together. It’s so refreshing seeing a young person talk about their struggles and insecurities, let alone a global superstar. When was the last time a celebrity said, “I’m sorry, I want to change, I want to grow, I want to be a better person”? On that note, when was the last time a Pastor said, “I struggle with this… but God’s helping me through it”? Life goal – be more real.
4. EVERY PERSON HAS A PURPOSE.
I love the message behind his recent song “Purpose”. If you haven’t heard the song, listen to it. You’ll be moved. I guarantee it (P.S I’m not really sure why the girls keep hugging him, but hey?).
“I put my heart into your hands
Here’s my soul to keep
I let you in with all that I can
You’re not hard to reach
And you bless me with the best gift
That I’ve ever known
You give me purpose
Yeah, you’ve given me purpose
I put my heart into your hands
Learn the lessons you teach
No matter what, wherever I am
You’re not hard to reach
And you’ve given me the best gift
That I’ve ever known
You give me purpose everyday
You give me purpose in every way”.
Oh, preach to me! This song inspires me to the core. I feel like I am singing a worship song to my Saviour Jesus, but that’s just me.
In an interview with Complex magazine, Justin spoke boldly about his faith.
“Sometimes when I don’t feel like doing something, but I know it’s right, I remember, I’m pretty sure Jesus didn’t feel like going to the cross and dying so that we don’t have to feel what we should have to feel. What Jesus did when He came to the cross was basically say, ‘You don’t have to feel any of that stuff.’ We could take out all of our insecurities, we could take away all of the hurt, all the pain, all the fear, all the trauma. That doesn’t need to be there. So all this healing that you’re trying to do, it’s unnecessary. We have the greatest healer of all and His name is Jesus Christ. And He really heals. This is it. It’s time that we all share our voice. Whatever you believe. Share it. I’m at a point where I’m not going to hold this in.”
“I just wanna honestly live like Jesus. Not be Jesus – I could never – I don’t want that to come across weird. He created a pretty awesome template of how to love people and how to be gracious and kind. If you believe it, he died for our sins.”
“My faith has gotten me to where I am. My faith has brought me to a whole other level.”
IT’S SAFE TO SAY I’VE BEEN CONVERTED. (I’M A BELIEBER) AND A BELIEVER)!’
My sincere hope is that Justin continues on a path of integrity and purpose. My hope for us is that we don’t just listen to these lyrics, we live them out and bring Jesus to a world that desperately needs Him.
