Psalm 8:1-9 MSG“GOD, brilliant Lord, yours is a household name. Nursing infants gurgle choruses about you; toddlers shout the songs That drown out enemy talk, and silence atheist babble. I look up at your macro-skies, dark and enormous, your handmade sky-jewelry, Moon and stars mounted in their settings. Then I look at my micro-self and wonder, Why do you bother with us? Why take a second look our way?
Yet we’ve so narrowly missed being gods, bright with Eden’s dawn light. You put us in charge of your handcrafted world, repeated to us your Genesis-charge, Made us lords of sheep and cattle, even animals out in the wild, Birds flying and fish swimming, whales singing in the ocean deeps.
GOD, brilliant Lord, your name echoes around the world.”
Where does our apathy come from?
Why do we care less about the state of our planet? Is it because we think God is going to give us a new one anyway..
I know I will one day have a new car but that doesn’t make me treat my current car with contempt or disdain! I still want to look after it so it serves me well. How can I give my current car away in good condition if I don’t look after it?
Regardless of our world view, this is the planet we have and God gave it to us to look after. The stewardship of planet earth says more about what type of people we are than it does about the preservation of creation!
