THE BIGGEST NAMES in Christian music came together this week in Nashville to honor the achievements of the sectors’ leading singers, bands, songwriters, worship leaders, publishers, labels, and producers at the 46th annual GMA Dove Awards.
Rapper Lecrae was named Artist Of The Year. His album Anomaly became the first title to top Billboard’s Top 200 and Gospel Album charts in the same week. Lecrae also won awards ‘rap/hip album of the year’ and ‘rap/hip hop song of the year’.
Newcomer Lauren Daigle took home three awards including new artist’, ‘song of the year’ and ‘pop/contemporary song of the year’ for her anthem How Can It Be.
Daigle’s song was co-written with Paul Mabury formerly of the Australian band, The Jive Express.
Australian brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone who perform as For King & Country were named ‘Contemporary Christian Artist Of the Year’ and their album Run Wild. Live Free. Love Strong won the award for ‘pop contemporary album of the year’.
The band’s manager David Smallbone says winning these awards is a real encouragement.
Hillsong Worship won two GMA Dove awards this year for ‘Worship Album Of the Year’ with No Other Name, and ‘Long Form Music Video Of The Year’ for the DVD of the same name.
