YOUNG & FREE
Young & Free has topped the ARIA Australian artist Album Chart this week with its sophomore project, Youth Revival.
The group ‘romped it in’ over debuts from fellow Aussies, Hands Like Houses, and DMAs.
On the general chart, ARIA lists Youth Revival at #3 just a whisker behind the new project for ‘The 1975’ and the Molly soundtrack, yet ahead of Adele’s 25 and Justin Bieber’s Purpose.
Young & Free’s Aodhan King says he’s excited that all kinds of people are now listening to the group’s music.
Young & Free’s current single Where You Are – (which is on Youth Revival) is the most played Christian song again this week on Australian Christian radio.
Levi McGrath – the Aussie who toured the country last year with NeedtoBreathe and Third Day – this week releases a ‘radio mix’ of one of his most popular concert songs, Beyond The Horizon.
I’ve gotta say Levi that the hook of your new song is really catchy, and I can’t get it out of my head at night as I’m trying to sleep. What are you doing to me! How did you come to write it?
Beyond The Horizon is a song from Levi McGrath’s latest album, Come Home. He’s touring Australia, New Zealand, UK and Germany throughout April, May, June and July.
BACK IN TIME
To finish, something we haven’t done for a while, let’s look back at the TCM charts for this week over the past few years.
Last year, the #1 song was Brother from NeedToBreathe. The song stayed at the top for three weeks following its Australian tour in February.
Five years ago, Nathan Tasker’s Something Beautiful was the hottest Christian song in the land. It landed at #1 for three weeks.
Ten years ago, Nathan Tasker again had the top song with Like You Love Me. That held the top position for seven weeks and eventually became the biggest song of 2006.
20 years ago – before TCM started – there was just a handful of Christian stations in this country, collectively their most played song was Phillips Craig & Dean’s Mercy Came Running.
Thirty years ago, the hottest song was the title cut from Leslie Phillips’ album Black And White In A Grey World.
And 40 years ago… there was no ‘Christian radio’ in Australia apart from Christian programs on commercial and community stations.
Australia’s first Christian community station 2CBA FM – now Hope 1032 – started in Sydney 37 years ago this week.
